Embraced by Grace …

Let me soul rise to meet you as the day rises to meet the sun …
“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.”
Sadness, loss and mourning is part of life.
We cannot escape it, even though we would like to and would probably would love to release that pain from those we love around us, but ultimately all of us will experience sadness, loss and mourning.
When experiencing sadness and pain it can be easy to blame.
“If God was a loving God then why did he allow this to happen?”
“God can’t be real because if God was real then this wouldn’t be happening!”
The presence of pain, suffering and sadness does not mean the absence of God; or the existence of God. The creator of the universe has not promised a life without pain, suffering, sadness and mourning; in fact we are called to expect these things to happen.
Just like an artist, painting a masterpiece, needs dark colours to accentuate the brighter colours. So God allows the darker colours within our lives to bring out the beauty of lighter, happier times; this is life.
Matthew, when writing down Jesus’ words, says blessed are you who mourn or those who have lost what is most dear to you, quickly reminds us that sadness and pain allows an opportunity for us to be embraced by God; to be comforted by the one who loves you the most.
We will never experience the comforting embrace of God when blaming him for the darker colours that we experience in life.
DO SOMETHING …
Are you sad? Suffering? Experiencing Pain?
Instead of blaming God or questioning God’s existence, why not allow God to embrace you?
Take time, right now, to thank God for the darker colours that help paint a beautiful masterpiece that is your life.
PRAY TODAY …
God, you are present in our joys and in our sorrows. Help us expect to live lives that mirror the suffering and joy of Christ our Saviour.
