Hungry and Thirsty

Hungry and Thirsty

“You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.”
Matthew 5:6

How hungry are you?

How thirsty are you?

My kids constantly say things like, “I’m starving” or “I’m so thirsty I think i’m going to die!”. And yet we know that they aren’t actually starving, they are usually just bored and they aren’t going to die from the thirst that they may be experiencing, it’s a bit of an overstatement.

Jesus quotes the above verse that we are blessed when we have worked up a good appetite for God.

I wonder sometimes whether God looks at us the same way I look at my children sometimes; when we claim to be ‘starving’ for God are we really? Or is it just a feeling that we have? A moment that is passing?

What would a life that truly hungered after God, or was thirsty for God, look like? What impression would that leave on the world around that person?

Ask yourself, honestly, am I hungry after God? Or do I just say the right words and act the right way when people are watching?

God, we want to hunger and thirst after you. Like Jesus we don’t want to live on bread alone but on the words of our Heavenly Father; help us today to find genuine hunger and thirst for all that you are. Amen.
