Let Perseverance do its work
by Andrew Lewis
‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.’
When we pray to God many of us would ask for patience, kindness, more love, hope or a second chance; these are normal qualities or things to ask God for.
Not many of us would ask for the quality of perseverance, why?
Because when we pray for perseverance we are usually given something that we must persevere through, this is not always the happiest of seasons, but according to our writer James we should be delighted, full of joy, when we face trials.
I don’t know about you but this doesn’t sound appealing to me, give me joy with our the trails, but thats not how it works. According to James and his own experience there is something about the grind that produces a desirable quality within us.
Are you facing a trial at the moment? Consider what is on the other side of that trial that will benefit you and your growth but will also a quality that will benefit those around you; what will the next generation learn from your trial? What will they learn from what you’ve gained on the other side?
DO SOMETHING …
If you are facing a trial right now, I want you to do something a little crazy, why don’t you thank God for that trial and give him glory for what you are going to gain on the other side.
PRAY TODAY …
God, thank you for the trials I have face, am facing and will face into the future. I trust that you know the outcome and the benefits I will experience on the other side of my trail. Give me perseverance. Amen.
