Hebrews 1:1-3

‘In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.’
Hebrews 1:1-3

Have you ever wanted to know God?

To actually really know God, to understand who God is. I believe deep down in all of humanity there is a desire to know and understand who God is, how God thinks and how God views us.

The writer of Hebrews begins their letter by stating that God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; messengers who were bringing what God thought, what made God happy or what made God upset, what God’s plans were.

But, the use of the word but signals a shift in communication. No longer was God using prophets and messenger, God was now using something weightier and more profound; God was going to use His own Son.

Look at how this writer describes Jesus …

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Notice those words, Jesus is the exact representation of God.

So in other words, if we want to know God, find about how God thinks, feels and what makes God happy or upset, we need to look no further than the life and teachings of Jesus.

In Jesus we have an exact representation of God, not an image of God but His being; meaning the essence of who God is will be found in how Jesus lived.

TODAY make a decision to read the Gospels, where the accounts of Jesus’ life are found. Value them, fall in love with how Jesus represents God to humanity, you may find something out about the essence of God.

God, our desire is to know you better. Help us to commit the time and focus to learn the life of your Son, Jesus, the exact representation of you. May we grow to know, love and extend what we learn about your essence. Amen.
