‘For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.’
What makes God’s Word different from any other book?
Sometimes it can feel a little bit like Lord of the Rings when reading the Bible, but there is still something different, something that shifts it from a normal book to something supernatural.
The Bible is a book that is full of history, inspiring stories, poetry, dark realities, broken people and victorious circumstances; like many other books. But when the Bible is approached with a heart full of faith and expectancy something powerful can happen.
The writer of Hebrews says that God’s word is alive and active; it’s not just a tale, there is something bigger and deeper going on.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, bringing our own faith to the table, we can experience transformation, encouragement, hope, mercy, justice and love with each turn of the page. The Bible is God revealing something about himself, although not solely a history book, it is HIS-STORY.
This book we call the Bible can be powerful and penetrative, but what is important to understand is that approach matters. We must have with a heart, attitude and mindset that is expectance for God to speak through His own word to us.
TODAY choose to approach God’s word, the Bible, with an expectation, an open heart and a spirit that honours the Bible as something that truly is life changing; give it priority and importance, you’ll be glad you did.
Lord, we need guidance, hope and knowledge on a new way of living life. Help us to rely on your own Word to transform us and restructure our lives to bring us closer to you. Amen.
